Emerald Current Review

Write for us

Emerald Current Review welcomes considered pitches about freshwater, rivers, wetlands, water cycles and the language people use to understand them. We look for useful ideas, clear thinking and an inviting voice.

What makes a good pitch

Send a focused proposal built around one reader's question, such as how a familiar water feature works or why a freshwater term is easy to misunderstand. Explain the central idea, the intended reader and what your piece would add beyond a general overview. Practical observation is welcome, but we do not need a pitch to claim specialist authority or offer advice about a particular site.

What we are looking for

We welcome accessible explainers, comparisons, careful histories, myth-checking and occasion-based pieces that remain useful over time. A strong pitch has a distinct angle, avoids repeating an existing article and makes clear where uncertainty or local variation matters.

How to send a proposal

Send proposals through the Contact page and choose the editorial question option. Include a short outline and a little context about your approach. Please do not send a complete article unless it has been requested; we will consider proposals on their merits, with no promise of publication.
